CASTLETON & NAVIO ROMAN FORT

Lose Hill from Hope Station
From HOPE STATION APPROACH
12.8km/8 miles 5 hours
PARK: In the broad approach lane to Hope Station, there is generous scope for parking, leave the actual station car park space for rail travellers.
After-walk Refreshment: Castleton is well-blessed with a choice of tearooms and six hotels enough to stem the thirst and charge the appetite of an army of walkers and regularly does. Hope is well blessed in this department, closest of all the Travellers’ Rest at the Brough road junction.
A classic walk for someone looking for a really good expedition from Manchester or Sheffield making the journey exclusively by rail. The walk ventures to the Great Ridge and Castleton returning close to Peakshole Water and steps over the midriff of the Roman Fort at Brough, ensuring there is plenty to see and a lot to fill the imagination.
