This is a new series of walks exploring the Open Access land of Cumbria outside of the two National Parks, prepared exclusively on behalf of Cumbria County Council Countryside Ranger Service.
The principal purpose is to show solitude seeking walkers where the access furniture - stiles, kissing-gates and information panels - have been placed and the most practical and rewarding circular routes to follow to take the fullest advantage of this new liberty.
The first set of walks focus on the northern entremity of the Pennine chain from Cold Fell to Hartside Pass - concentrating on beautiful Geltsdale, the author's home patch!
The project is in its infancy, but by the Autumn the first set of five walks will be designed as downloadable PDF leaflets with full-colour Ordnance Survey maps. The gallery on this website will give a rounded view of the character of each walk, if the weather is suitably kind!
